There has never before been an effective, institutional advocate for horseplayers in North American racing, but Pat Cummings and the Thoroughbred Idea Foundation have emphatically changed that in the past several years. As the TIF's executive director, Cummings has brought to light many of the myriad issues and injustices facing horse bettors like no one has before, and Tuesday, Cummings joined Bettor Things with Joe Bianca for an illuminating conversation about the progress made on behalf of players in recent years and how much work there still is left to do. Bianca and Cummings discussed the successful push to bring penny breakage to Kentucky and what states may be next, the increasing impact of algorithmic computer wagerers on middle-class horseplayers, how bettors can put pressure on racing's decision makers to bring about change and much more.
Later in the show, in his Breeders' Cup Challenge betting series, Bianca paid tribute to his beloved Aqueduct as it prepares to host Breeders' Cup Win and You're In qualifiers for the first time before handicapping and laying out plays for Saturday's GI Champagne S. and GII Miss Grillo S.
